On Sunday, August 26, there was a debate between 5 people running for councillor in Ward 20.  This was part of the Air Day celebrations at Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington Market.

Ward 20 Candidates

The candidates in attendance were, from left to right, Doug Lowry, Adam Vaughan, Desmond Cole, Chris Ouellette and Helen Kennedy.

The debate took place on a smog day, which was fitting, as smog was a big issue at the debate.  Although the discussion focused mostly on development and housing issues, Helen Kennedy expressed that she supports a Tooker bike lane on Bloor st.  Adam Vaughan seemed open to the idea but did not openly back the plan.  None of the other candidates mentioned their stance on bike lanes along Bloor.

While the beginning of such a vision may be there with Mayor Sam Katz’s main competitor, Kaj Hasselriis, the rest of the election is turning out to be a matter basic civic duties that should be taken care of no matter what.
